Courts, archives and many public agencies ask for PDF/A, the ISO standard for documents that must render the same in decades. PDF Converter converts to PDF/A-2b, the most widely accepted level: it embeds any missing standard fonts with metric-compatible equivalents, attaches an sRGB colour profile, writes matching XMP identification and document information, and removes content PDF/A forbids.
How to convert PDF to PDF/A
- Choose the PDF to archive.
- Press Convert – checks and fixes run automatically.
- Download your PDF/A-2b file and read the conversion report.
Good to know
- Unembedded Helvetica, Arial, Times and Courier fonts are replaced by the Liberation font family, which has identical character widths, so line breaks and layout do not change.
- JavaScript, embedded attachments, auto-run actions and annotations without a visible appearance are removed, as PDF/A requires.
- If something cannot be fixed automatically (for example an unembedded symbol or CJK font, or CMYK images), the report says so instead of claiming success. For compliance-critical submissions, confirm the result with a validator such as veraPDF.
Frequently asked questions
Which PDF/A level do I get?
PDF/A-2b – the level most courts, archives and agencies accept. It guarantees reliable visual reproduction.
Can encrypted PDFs become PDF/A?
Not directly. PDF/A forbids encryption, so unlock the file first.
Will it look different?
Normally not. Substituted fonts are metric-compatible, so text keeps the same positions.
